How this calculator works
Annual call volume per tech comes from industry surveys aggregated by Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, and NextPhone. The numbers vary by trade — locksmiths take 1,800+ calls per tech per year because lockouts are short; restoration companies take ~320 because each call leads to a multi-day job.
Missed call % is the share of inbound that goes unanswered. NextPhone's 2024 study tracked 45 home service contractors over 7 months and found 74% of inbound was unanswered for HVAC. Housecall Pro reports a 27% baseline across home services. We use trade-specific numbers as defaults.
Average ticket size is the trade's typical revenue per booked job. Plumbing emergencies average $425; HVAC replacements skew higher; locksmith jobs lower. The calculator uses median ticket; your actual mix may differ.
Recovery rate is how many of your currently-missed calls Heyfield can pick up. We default to 50% conservatively. In practice, Heyfield picks up 100% of inbound (it's an AI, it doesn't sleep) — but we discount for calls that hang up before the agent responds, calls outside service area, and spam.
Conversion rate is the share of recovered conversations that become booked jobs. We default to 20% — typical for diagnostic-heavy trades. Locksmiths and emergency restoration convert higher; install-heavy trades like roofing convert lower.
Heyfield cost uses the Pro plan ($99/month, 400 minutes). For high-volume shops, the Business plan ($199/month, 800 minutes) makes more sense and the ROI math gets even better.
